a struggle (a painting in two acts)

twelve-hour action with wood, rope, earth, acrylic, water, brushes, palette knives, cotton shirt, denim pants, glass and plastic containers
a figure with a problematic attachment attempted to move about a scene in order to collect what was necessary to pursue a localized figure painting practice. the action took place between two days and had, through one perspective, played as medium between the opening scene of albertine serrazin’s 1965 novel, astragal, and its specific site: a spread of lawn between goffe street and the facade of the new haven armory. directly behind the debunked building is an active juvenile detention center, and to someone unfamiliar the two could seem like one building.
